Living History Encounter

The Living History Encounter has a new home! This summer, thanks to Jeff Ivaska, land owner of the Klondike Days grounds, the Living History Encounter has a permanent location in thewoods. Relocation of the Trader's Cabin and construction of a Round House, bark shelter and several other traditional campsites have been completed to offer a better historic setting of what life was like here in the Northern Great Lakes Region from 1600 to 1840. Over sixty individuals and businesses contributed time, services, and materials to make this development a success.

The Living History Encounter, sponsored by the Forest County Potawatomi Community, will present twenty-eight professional Historical Interpreters demonstrating the skills and lifestyle ofthe Fur Trade Era. We are pleased to have Billy Daniels Jr., Elder of the Forest County Potawatomi, telling traditional stories and history of Native Americans of this region.

You can visit him in the Round House. British and French military units will be present, "to keep the peace", and you can try your hand at driving a team of Gerry Barker's oxen. Karl Koster and Wayne Krefting will be at the Trading Post to offer you their new wares from Montreal.

Friday, February 15th will be "School Day" for over 500 elementary and high school students from the area, once again made possible by the support of the Forest County Potawatomi.

Come join us for a walk back in time. Learn about your ancestors. Experience the cultures, traditions, and lifestyles that are the foundation for how we now live.

See you at Klondike Days.
