3rd Annual Snowshoe Challenge
The Snowshoe Challenge will again be a part of the 20th annual Klondike Days February 20 and 21, 2010. Last year the snowshoe races were a great success with all the competitors stating how much fun they had and what a great course it was. The winners received weekend getaways at some north-woods vacations spots. With this being the second year we are working on making it even better by having a bigger area for a mass start and changing the course to make it even more back country. The course runs through the woods behind Rocking W Stables off Pleasure Island Road near the high school. The Challenge includes a 1 mile fun run with no prizes or categories, a Children’s race with medals for all participants, and the challenging 3 mile and 6 mile races for the serious competitors with awards given to the top 3 in each age division.
The Snowshoe Challenge will take place on Saturday, February 21. Registration will be outside the Klondike Days gates and will be from 9:00-10:30. The races will begin at 11:00 at the race start/finish area inside Klondike Days event grounds. Pre-registration is $15.00. Race day is $20.00. Registration forms are available here. Perks for participating in the snowshoe challenge is a long sleeved T-shirt and FREE entry into the greatest event of the winter, Klondike Days!
For those enthusiasts that would like to try snowshoes for the first time, we will have the Snowshoe Demonstration Station set up nearby for you to strap on a pair of snowshoes and tromp around so that you can experience the mode of transportation used in the fur trade era.
We encourage all that enjoy the outdoors to come out and join us in this great winter activity in one of the levels of competition. For more information contact Christine Hare at harec@newnorth.net, or 715/477-0301.
